Research Publication in Angewandte Chemie

Our congratulations extend to our Trainee Patent Attorney, Adam Bennett, on the publication of his work with Dr Stephen Wallace and colleagues of Edinburgh University.  The work has been published in Angewandte Chemie in July 2019 and can be found here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/anie.201903973

The work is concerned with exploring the biosynthetic potential of native microorganisms and in this case explores the whole cell biotransformation in the synthesis of aminolevulinic acid from a lignin-derived feedstock.  The study demonstrates the effective promiscuity of central metabolism in bacterial cells (in particular E-coli) and how these processes can be used for synthetic chemistry without the need for genetic manipulation.
